What To Do When Your Worries Stress You Out

As the natural roller coaster ride that is life normally goes, there are ups and downs. It doesn’t matter what you try to avoid it, things will keep coming your way. But don’t worry, everything is going to be okay, because we all experience it, no matter who or where you are in the world.

Fortunately you can find ways to manage it a little better in your lives, because you deserve to focus on ways to lighten the load on yourself. Don’t make it just your problem, share it and get some help whenever you can.

Share It With Someone Close

When you have problems on your mind, it can sometimes feel as if it’s eating you up, inside-out. This really is no fun, and when you’re told to just forget whatever’s on your mind, it’s a lot easier said than done.

If you have anyone your close to, like a partner, sibling, friend or parent, try to talk to them and ask if they’ll listen to you. I know this can be a scary thing to do sometimes, but chances are there is a person who is willing to listen to you.

They don’t even have to do anything for you like come up with solutions, they just need to hear you out and support you. Getting it off your chest can be one of the best ways to make that problem smaller in your head. Because, a problem shared is a problem halved.

Distract Yourself

You might not think that there’s anything to do in your spare time, but truth is there is something that you like. Whether it’s music, singing, reading, gardening or video games, there is always something you can do, even if you’re on your own.

If you can give yourself a distraction or a hobby that you know you want to do and like it, you can definitely lift your mood again for a while.

For myself, I absolutely love the outdoors. So before going to work, I’ll sit in the garden and enjoy listening to a peaceful sunny morning. I will also put on a playlist of uplifting songs that I like and play it to cheer myself up. If you’re on your own, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks, because it’s only for you, so have the time of your life!

All Bad Moments Will Pass

Again, this is another easy one to say when you’re not the person experiencing some sort of pain. When you’re in the middle of your worries, it can become your world for a little while, and all you can think of is whatever is sitting there in your head being analyzed.

But you must remember something – these moments aren’t going to last forever. Whether it’s waiting for an upcoming exam, waiting for a job interview, or anything else that’s making you feel under the weather, it’s not going to last forever. At some point, the events will pass, and before you know it it will be far in the past like a distant memory.

Let Go and Accept

I use this method a lot while I’m working. Not only do I have a lot of jobs placed on my shoulders all day and everyday, but often times my boss will have a problem with something because it’s not perfect or done right.

Now it is hard work dealing with disappointment, and like everyone else, I have no fun at all hearing it. It makes me want to go home quicker, and come back anytime as late as possible. But when things start to look impossible, with the workload exceeding the amount of time, I have simply started to let go of the fact it’s a problem and accept that the situations are just what they are.

When I do this, I free myself of unnecessary stress that I feel for work, and I start to choose to feel a sense of calm. This somehow actually makes my decision making skills at work even better, as I start to become more logical and I only choose the jobs that are the most important to do.

As for everything else, I just communicate it to other people who can help out with the tasks. I ensure not to put a hefty workload on myself alone, and I learn to make others help me within their capacity too.

But the main thing about letting go of stress is understanding this – no matter what you think of a situation, your stress cannot change the fact that it exists. Therefore, why get stressed about it anymore? It is what it is, so just put yourself at peace and do only what you can, because you’re only human.

Seek Professional Help

This can be the hardest step to take. There are many reasons why people won’t go to a doctor and discuss difficult thoughts, such as feeling not worthy of their time, or thinking the problems aren’t serious enough.

If this is always the case and worries cause more physical and psychological issues in your daily life, you should definitely consider this. I did this myself during some very difficult times, and it was the best thing I ever did.

Doing this on your own can be the most difficult step, so if someone you trust can be there to support you through this, such as accompanying you to an appointment, this can be the extra lift to get you where you need to be.

Sometimes the extreme worries can be caused by hormonal imbalances within yourself that aren’t always easy to control. It’s not always your fault, and even medication might be the answer to adjusting your balance so that you can be at peace with yourself.

I hope these ideas can help you in worrying times. I know that I’ve done everything listed up here, which is why I suggest them all. It has, in some cases, taken many, many years to get to a place where I am at peace with myself, and where my worries are no longer the only focus of my life, only on the periphery of my mind.
