Things I’m Looking Forward to This Winter

I know that the year 2020 hasn’t been anyone’s favorite year, which we can totally agree on. With the fullness of our lives limited and put on hold, I think we want something to look forward to before this year ends.

I’ve been thinking about the things that I’m pretty excited for now that it’s getting colder in the mornings, and there are many things you can still make room to enjoy. And as I wrap myself in a blanket and a hot drink, I hope you can too when reading this.

Warm Blankets and Hot Drinks

On the days that I get to lay in, I just love the feeling of wrapping myself entirely in a thick, warm blanket and getting nice and toasty while the frost builds up on the windows.

This is the time of year when I can grab out my special fluffy blankets which are made for this purpose, to be enjoyed during the cold. A fluffy blanket and a hot chocolate in my hand while looking out the window sounds perfect to me right now…

Multi Colored Leaves

Summer is notorious as a bright and colorful season, yet people forget that even when it gets colder, the weather doesn’t take all the color away from the world.

Yes, plants bloom with many varied colors of flowers, and leaves are vibrant and green, but come fall and winter, they can turn all kinds of colors too, from red, orange and yellow to green, brown and black.

This is one my favorite things about taking a stroll on a frosty day, breathing in the cold morning air, and hearing the sounds of birds in the winter. And don’t forget to step on a leaf! I just love the sound it makes, it’s just so satisfying! (if you don’t want to wait, search for an ASMR video online). It just makes me smile thinking about it.

Decorative Town Lights

You know when it starts to get darker earlier, it feels a little bit sad doesn’t it? It’s like you’re losing more of your day to the darkness, but not necessarily.

When towns start putting up the lights on the trees and across buildings, you get a different world light up (literally) come night time. You get the best of two different atmospheres in the morning and the evening.

To me, this is a very magical thing to see. The lights, shaped like stars or spelling out seasonal messages, make me feel like it’s the beginning of a very special time of year that cheers me up the most about winter.

Shopping Malls!

I don’t know why these places feel different in the winter, maybe it’s the winter decor and the sales…

These places are absolutely buzzing with atmosphere during November and December, where the sales are ramping up for people to quickly buy their presents in time.

I remember going to Bluewater Shopping Center a few years ago. If you’re not sure where it is, it’s in Kent in the east of England and it’s a massive shopping mall full of every kind of retailer and dining place that you could imagine. It’s massive with multi stories, and during the lead up to Christmas, the place comes alive. If you love shops, this place is a shopaholic’s heaven!

The Most Wonderful Time…

Do you know why it’s called that? Because it definitely is the best time to be around! And yes I’m talking about Christmas time! I just love how when you get nearer to December, the feeling of the season slowly takes over, and the more decorated everything is, the more beautiful and mystical everything becomes.

Also, who doesn’t love Christmas decorations! There are so many ways you can decorate your house for Christmas, and this year is the first year of ever living in a house of our own. So I get to decorate it how I want to…

Family Time

Putting up the decorations makes everything feel like a countdown to an exciting time where I get to see the people most important to me – my family and relatives. It’s probably one of the only times where I can guarantee that I will see the people closest to me, as we actually get time off work!

Pretty much everyone at one time in the western world are united in not having to work (except if you work in catering), and the streets on Christmas and Boxing day have an eerie but peaceful vibe.

It’s also the best excuse to eat and drink as much as you like, and just be happy and grateful that you’ve got the opportunity to enjoy such pleasures you can get out of life.

  1. Thanks for following me. I too, am a petite (although quite a bit older than you) so I shall be reading your posts with interest. My luxe fabric of choice is silk and I do love this worn under a cashmere cardi/jacket.
